Betaderm Cream 15G – Specification

Generics: Betamethasone Valerate

Used For: Eczema

How it Works:
Topical corticosteroids act as anti-inflammatory agents via multiple mechanisms to inhibit late-phase allergic reactions. They decrease mast cell density, chemotaxis, and activation of eosinophils, reduce cytokine production by immune cells, and inhibit arachidonic acid metabolism.


Usage & Safety

Dosage: Betamethasone Valerate (apply as directed by physician)

Side Effects:

  • Common (up to 1 in 10 people): Local skin burning or pain, itchy skin

  • Very rare (up to 1 in 10,000 people, usually with long-term or occlusive use): Increased weight, moon face, obesity, thinning skin, stretch marks, skin damage, skin wrinkling

Drug Interactions: Ritonavir, itraconazole

Indication:
Helps reduce redness and itchiness in skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.


When Not to Use:

  • Allergy to betamethasone valerate or any ingredient in the cream

  • Children under 1 year

Precautions:

  • Avoid contact with eyes; risk of glaucoma if applied to eyelids

  • Long-term facial use can cause skin thinning

Warnings:

  1. Long-term facial application may cause skin thinning

  2. Prolonged use may increase the risk of cataract

  3. Large quantity or prolonged application on large areas may cause systemic absorption leading to hypercortisolism (stretch marks, visible blood vessels, excess hair growth, skin color changes, weight gain, moon face)
