How it works:
Betamethasone valerate is a potent topical corticosteroid that rapidly relieves inflammatory dermatoses responsive to corticosteroid therapy and is effective even in less responsive conditions such as psoriasis. Neomycin sulphate is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic effective against most bacteria commonly linked with skin infections.


Usage & Safety

Dosage:
Betamethasone Valerate, Neomycin Sulphate (as per physician’s prescription).

Side Effects:

  • Local hypersensitivity

  • Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression

  • Cushingoid features (moon face, central obesity)

  • Delayed weight gain/growth retardation in children

  • Osteoporosis

  • Glaucoma

  • Hyperglycaemia/glucosuria

  • Cataract

  • Hypertension

  • Increased weight/obesity

  • Decreased endogenous cortisol levels

Drug Interactions:

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, itraconazole)

  • Neomycin sulphate

Indication:
Relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of steroid-responsive dermatoses.


When Not to Use:

  • Children under 2 years of age

  • Large quantities or prolonged use where significant systemic absorption may occur (due to ototoxic and nephrotoxic potential of neomycin)


Precautions:

  • Occlusive dressings and skin folds can encourage bacterial growth; cleanse skin before reapplying dressings.


Warnings:

  1. Use with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to betamethasone, neomycin, or excipients.

  2. Discontinue immediately if prolonged diarrhoea or abdominal cramps occur.

  3. Children may absorb proportionally larger amounts of corticosteroids, increasing the risk of systemic side effects.


Pregnancy Category: Consult physician before use.

Storage: Store at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
